Additional capabilities enhance CMD’s ability to execute on critical minimally invasive devices; increase speed, flexibility, and value for customers

Catheter and Medical Design LLC (CMD), a manufacturer of custom, highly complex catheter shafts and delivery systems, announced today that it acquired VitalDyne Medical Inc., Cokato, Minn., on March 10, 2021. The acquisition creates a platform with all the precision technologies needed to execute on critical minimally invasive devices and provides customers with greater speed, flexibility and value.

VitalDyne Medical brings state-of-the-art laser cutting, welding, micro machining and finished device manufacturing capabilities to complement CMD’s existing complex catheter shaft design and manufacturing capabilities.

“VitalDyne Medical has a long history as a trusted partner to medical device OEMs that they’ve built through engineering expertise and excellent customer service,” said Randall Sword, CEO of CMD. “We are excited to join forces with VitalDyne, collectively we share the same focus on speed, high-mix manufacturing and engineering expertise. I’m confident our customers will benefit from our combined technical capabilities.”

Both CMD and VitalDyne Medical serve customers in the coronary vascular, peripheral vascular, neurovascular, and structural heart segments. The two companies have previously collaborated on critical devices that cross the septum of the heart to repair heart valves, treat atrial fibrillation and prevent strokes.

“Both companies excel at superior technical solutions, flexible manufacturing and share the same market strategy,” said VitalDyne CEO Todd Schroeder. “It became an easy decision to join forces.”
